The Roanoke College volleyball team had a bit of a rough start on Wednesday, September 5, when they lost their first ODAC game against the Lynchburg College Hornets in three sets (15-25, 20-25, 16-25.) This loss left the team with a record of 1-4 for the start of the season.
Early this week, the Maroons traveled to Greensboro, NC for the Greensboro Classic Tournament. The team was very successful at this tournament going 4-0 for the weekend, winning all of their games and the tournament. In the first game, the Maroons swept Agnes Scott College (25-12, 25-19, 25-17.) The second game was played against Peace College, who were beaten by a score of three sets to one. The scores were (20-25, 26-24, 25-22, 27-25.)
The second day of the tournament started with Roanoke playing against the host, Greensboro College. The teams had to play all five sets to decide a winner, and the Maroons won with scores of (25-23, 21-25, 24-26, 25-22, 15-11.) The girls then completed the sweep of the tournament by beating Guilford College by three sets to zero with scores of (25-21, 25-14, 25-20.) With this final game completed, the Roanoke volleyball team won the Greensboro Classic tournament and bumped their season record up to 5-4.
Key players for the Maroons in this tournament include: Allison White who totaled 36 kills, earning her a spot on the all-tournament team, and Mackenzie Tyree who had 57 total digs and was named the MVP of the Greensboro Classic Tournament.
