Cross Country Dominates First Two Meets

Maggie Christ – Staff Writer

The men’s Cross Country team is undefeated after their first two invitationals this season. The women are close behind with a great record to begin their season.

The men have a great record going so far as they have won both of their previous meets this fall.  They took first place at Randolph College and Washington and Lee earlier in September.

The men have been led by Andrew “A.J.” Bernstein ’14 who took second place overall at the Washington and Lee meet.

Austin Grubb ’14 took second for the team in the Washington and Lee meet and was closely followed by Drew Landgren ’14.  Having three freshmen place in the top five is an excellent achievement for the men’s cross country team

With seven freshmen on the men’s team coming up with great experience, there is potential for the coming years as well.

“If we continue to get in that summer training we can continue to move up in the ODAC’s,” said Coach Pincus..

Frank Tupper ’11 studied abroad last year and returned this season and is competing very well.

“He’s been a pleasant surprise,” Pincus said.

In the Randolph College Invitation, the women’s team took second again led by Maggie Moore ’11 and Lauren Kennedy ’14.  Following them were Stephanie Spickard ’12 and Emily Reichenbach ’13.

For the women, Moore led the team by taking fourth place. She was followed by Kennedy in sixth place.  The team placed third overall.

The men’s and women’s Cross Country teams will face about a dozen teams at the RC Invitational this Saturday, Sep. 25. Teams include UVA-Wise and Bluefield College who competed last year as well as Marymount College and some others that did not come to last year’s Invitational.
