The beginning of the end is near. On Friday, Nov. 19, the first part of the final movie in the blockbuster “Harry Potter” series will be released in theatres. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” will cover the first half of the book, while the next half will be released in July of 2011.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” was originally released in the United States on July 21, 2007 and is the final book in the popular wizarding series. Throughout the book, Harry, Ron and Hermione must find the rest of the Horcruxes, the objects that a dark witch or wizard has used to contain parts of his or her soul, which were created by Lord Voldemort.
The film brings back the usual cast of characters. Harry, Ron and Hermione are still portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson respectively. However, with the new book, new characters are being introduced and that means new actors are being called to the stage. Gellert Grindelwald, Dumbledore’s former rival, will be played by Jamie Campbell Bower, best known for his role as Anthony in “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” Rufus Scrimgeour, the new Minster of Magic, will be portrayed by Bill Nighy, known for his role as Davy Jones in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy. Xenophillius Lovegood, the eccentric father of Luna Lovegood, will be played by Rhys Ifans, known for his portrayal of Gavin in “Pirate Radio”.
Unlike the past six movies, the music for “The Deathly Hallows” is not under the supervision of John Williams. Director David Yates had intended on working with Williams, but their schedules were not matching in a way that would see this possible. Instead, musical scores are supervised by Alexandre Desplat while Conrad Pope is credited as Orchestrator. Williams is still credited for the musical themes in the films.
With the last film being released, many “Harry Potter” fans are wondering what will happen in the battle between good and evil, i.e. Harry vs. Voldemort. Fans will have a little insight as to what is going to happen by watching the film, but they will have to wait until July 2011 for the series to reach its conclusion.
