Men’s Basketball Beats Stevenson; Falls to W&L

Roanoke College Men’s Basketball team has started their season off right.  They began with a win last week against Warren Wilson College and enter this week’s game with a 3-1 record. 

The boys won their 300th game in the Bast Center on November 29.  They topped Patrick Henry with a score of 107-65.  With this game, they hold a record of 300-92 in the Bast Center since 1982 when the doors were opened.

Melvin Felix ’11 awarded the team 13 points and Clay Lacy ’14 had a season-high of 11 points and five rebounds.  Jordan Thacker ’13 scored 12 points for his career-best.

The fourth player to score in the double-digits was Logan Singleton ’12 with 10.  He was followed by teammates Adam Kessler ’12 and Kwasi Amponsah ’13 with nine points each. Amponsah also managed a career-best seven rebounds and three assists.

Corey Poindexter ’11 helped the team with four assists and three steals.

In latest game against Stevenson on Saturday, the Maroons won 92-84.

 Matt Crizer ’11 scored a career-high 21 points.  Amponsha scored a career-best 17 points and Jack Hamilton ’14 contributed 12 points and six rebounds.

As Stevenson and Roanoke traded basekts, two of Hamilton’s free throws sent them into their first lead with six minutes remaining in the first half.

Lacy had eight rebounds for the night and Thacker had a career-high of firve assists in addition to his four points and two steals.

The Maroons fell to 3-2, 0-1 in the ODAC with a heartbreaking conference loss to Washington & Lee Thursday.  RC was lead by Felix who had 21 points.

The men will return to the court Saturday as they travel to Lynchburg to take on Lynchburg College. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
