Roanoke’s women’s basketball team has jumped to a 2-1 start to the 2010 season.

The women started the season off right with an overtime thriller against Ferrum College in the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Classic, winning 73-64.  Rebecca Bays ’11 helped lead the team to overtime by helping the Maroons come back from 10 points down and score the final points in regulation to tie the game.  Bays finished the night with nine assists to lead the team.  Jordan Gholson ’11 led the Maroons with 21 points.

The next night of the tournament didn’t fare as well for the Maroons as they fell to Mary Washington 70-61.  Nicci Moats ’12 lead the team with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks on her way to being named tournament MVP.

The women were able to bounce back from the loss to win their first ODAC meeting of the year, 59-41 against Eastern Mennonite.  The Maroons jumped ahead early and held onto that lead for the entire contest, holding the Royals to just 22 percent shooting from the field.

The women will travel to Emory & Henry on Saturday for another ODAC match.  Game time is set for  3 p.m.
