Roanoke College’s Women’s Soccer team received an at-large bid for the NCAA Division III tournament this weekend. They will play on Saturday, November 12, taking on Centre College.
This is the third time in program-history that the Maroons were given a bid. The team ended their regular season with a record of 14-5-1. For the six-straight season the team has had ten or more wins, reaching the 300th win for the program just this fall. Head Coach Phil Benne is the winningest coach in the program and claims 266 of those wins in his 23 seasons as head coach. He has also seen the Maroons to all three of these NCAA Tournament appearances.
Goalkeeper Carloyn Sarbacher ’15 is optimistic about the team’s chances.
“I believe we can win both games this weekend, but it won’t be easy,” Sarbacher said.
Sarbacher has earned six shutouts in her debut season adding up 49 saves overall.
Leading the team with the most points this season is Carmen Graves ’13 with 21 total. She has had nine goals and three assists. Rebekah Adams ‘13 follows making six goals herself and has 17 points for the season. With five goals each, Steph Parenteau ’15 and Cindy Suttora ’13 have each contributed greatly to the season.
“All the hard work this team has put in has paid off,” Sarbacher said.
If they win, the Maroons will face the winner of the Emory versus Piedmont College game on Sunday at Emory University.
“These are the best teams in the region we are going to play, but I think we can definitely compete with them,” Sarbacher said.
