Roanoke College’s Campus Activities Board will be hosting its annual celebration Winterfest beginning this Thursday, February 2 and lasting until Saturday, February 4.  The weekend extravaganza is sure to bring many Maroons together with its various activities.

With the theme Winter Wonderland, the event could be likened to a homecoming, since much of it involves Maroon spirit. On Thursday, February 2 from 7 to 11 pm, there will be an artificial ice skating rink outside the Cavern. Easily accessible for students, this first event will include music and lights and will be a fun way to kick of the weekend.

A campus event known for bringing many students together, CAB will host Bingo on Friday, February 3, in Bast. With as many as 500 attendees, Bingo has many prizes to give out. These include an Xbox Kinect, a ski weekend to a local resort, and the grand prize of a spring break travel voucher.

Maroon spirit is sure to be contagious on Saturday, February 4, with both the men and women basketball teams playing, beginning at 2 pm. During half-time of the men’s basketball game, the king and queen of Winterfest will be announced. To conclude Winterfest, musician Matt Wertz will be playing in concert from 8 to 10 pm in the Alumni Gym.

In the past, Winterfest has been a 2 day activity consisting of Friday and Saturday. This year however, CAB has made it a full weekend event.

“It can be hard for Winterfest to be recognized. We have been really trying to emphasize the difference between Winterfest and another weekend here.” said Katrina Klaus ’12, president of CAB.

This year, Winterfest is sure to be a hit and will surely add to RC’s recent recognition of having outstanding campus activities.

“I like how it is a sense of camaraderie for students. It is important to be proud of being an RC student” Klaus ‘12 said.
