Ever since the game was announced last year, the internet has been buzzing with anticipation over the development of “Planetside 2”. Now that the NDA (non-discourse agreement) has been lifted, I can review the development of this game.
“Planetside2”, a sequel to the MMO-FPS, brings players back to the fray on combat in this already impressive sequel. The game’s core concept runs on the idea of large scale warfare set in the future. It other word imagine “Call of Duty”, or “Battlefield 3” set in the future with everybody playing on one server. Everything about this game is larger from the size of the battlefield; nearly sixty square kilometers of playable space, aircraft that seats fifteen players, and much more. The best part about the game is it will launch free to play right from the start.
The game developed by Sony Online Entertainment has been in closed beta for several months where they conducted stress testing of the servers, balancing issues with the players classes, and client testing. While the game has been in the public eye for quite some time, with the beta estimated to last much longer than most games, it has received much attention from the gamming community.
As creative director for the game John Smedly said, they want this game to “be the most polished game at release.”
That in itself is a huge undertaking for the size of this game.
Overall the game is moving along at a relatively good speed and while there are a few glitches here and there. These glitches, like falling through the floor or incorrect hit boxes for the characters, will probably be fixed by the time this article gets published.
While there is no release date for the game, it seems this game will most definitely stand out from the rest of the crowd. With no other game that can compare to the massive scale of this game it is clear that whenever this game comes out it will certainly change the way developers make their games. This is one to keep your eye on.
