Maroons Field Hockey has gotten off to a rocky start thus far this season. With a record of 1-7 and 0-2 in ODAC play, the Maroons are struggling to get their feet under them.
It is certainly not lack of skill or passion that has caused the Maroons to lag. Under the guiding hand of Head Coach Briana Banks and Assistant Coach Abby Bjork, the Lady Maroons have tried valiantly to capture the elusive win, but have come up short so far in the season.
Recently, they were stopped Wednesday, September 19 by Limestone College with a final score of 5-0. They were likewise stopped just a few days earlier by Kean University on Sunday, September 16,, ending with the score of 5-0 despite six saves by RC sophomore Darian Shuker. They lost on September 14 to Lynchburg, with a final score of 4-0.
The Maroons edged out their one win so far this season against Sewanee University behind two goals by junior Kelly Finn. The final score of the contest was 2-1. At the forty minute mark, Finn angled a long pass from junior Lianna Hachborn to tie the game at 1-1. Not thirty seconds later, Finn scored her third goal of the season, granting the Maroons a lead which they held onto until the end. All three goals tallied by the Maroons this season have been captured by Finn.
The Lady Maroons will play again September 29 at noon, against Sweet Briar College in ODAC action.
