Maroons Field Hockey wrapped up a tumultuous season last Saturday, ending with a loss of 8-1 to Bridgewater College in the opening round of the ODAC Field Hockey Tournament. The Maroons were outshot by the Eagles 23-4. The Maroons only goal came from Lianna Hachborn (JR), who scored off of a rebound from a keeper. Hachborn’s first goal of the season was unassisted.

In their last regular season match on the 24th of October, the Roanoke College Field Hockey team bowed out with a loss to Randolph-Macon, finishing play with a final score of 5-1. Randolph-Macon outshot Roanoke 24-13, but the Maroons led with 11-8 in penalty corners. Darian Shuker (SO) faced 17 shots and made 13 saves while serving in the goal.

This season the Maroons tallied up a high number of saves by period, especially when looked in contrast to the number of shots per period. Overall for this season, Roanoke College totaled 116 shots per period whereas their opponents totaled 288 in games against RC. Similar numbers show that the Roanoke College offense was not particularly aggressive from an overall perspective.

Last season, the Maroons finished with a record of 6-12. The season before they were 2-13. In a season of hard losses, the Maroons finished with an overall season record was 4-13 and were 3-5 in ODAC play. Only six teams make the postseason in the Field Hockey ODAC, and the lady Maroons earned the sixth seed in the ODAC tournament, having earned the slot after beating Eastern Mennonite, but fell in the opening round. Best of luck next season, ladies.
