The Maroon volleyball team played their last game on Halloween, falling to Washington and Lee three matches to none. They finish the season with a 16-15 record, 5-6 in ODAC play.
Several Maroons stood out this season with their stellar play. Shannon Stone is now third all-time in assists at Roanoke after four years as a setter, achieving 1912 assists in her career. Sophomore defensive specialist Mackenzie Tyree set a single-season dig record with 482 digs. Sarah Long, a sophomore outside hitter, led the team in kills with 213 over 97 games, as well as leading in blocks and block assists. Freshmen outside Macey Tyree and defensive specialist Alexandra Martin both served 38 aces this season.
The Maroons played a great season, improving greatly on last season’s 7-23 record. Seniors Courtney Cooper and Shannon Stone should be proud of their accomplishments with the Maroons, while the rest of the young team can look forward to improving even more in the coming years. The team is made up mostly of freshmen and sophomores, so watch for some growth over the next few seasons. Congratulations to all the players for a well-played season.
