The Maroons baseball team defeated Milligan College after a three run rally in the eighth inning of Wednesday night’s game. The Maroons held Milligan to only one run, using a total of eight pitchers across the nine innings, while scoring four of their own.

Roanoke scored first in the bottom of the fourth when Bradley Mattox led the inning off with a single, stole second base, reached third on a sacrifice fly, and then scored on a passed ball. The Maroons held the one run lead until the top of the six when Harrison Richards issued a two out, bases loaded walk to score Sam Tarlton.

In the bottom of the eighth, Cody Craft led off with a single between the second baseman and short stop. After Milligan got two outs, Roanoke started a two out rally when Cameron Cassady hit an RBI single, scoring Craft. Two batters late, Mark Manthe hit a double to score two runners, giving Roanoke a 4-1 lead. Roanoke closed out the game when Cameron Holshouser came in, striking out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Bradley Mattox, Mark Manthe, and Jacob Clifton all had two hits during the game. Mattox scored two of the four runs for the Maroons and Mark Manthe had two RBIs. Tyler Grouten earned the win, bringing his season record to 3-3, and Cameron Holshouser earned the save. The Maroons play next on Saturday, 3/23, when they travel to Washington and Lee.
