The New Christian Grey revealed.
50 shades of chaos
Once again the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, an adaptation of the novel by E.L. James, is back in the news. In late October into November, the previously cast male lead, Charlie Hunnam, dropped out of the film. However, with much excitement, a new lead was announced soon after, and the new Christian Grey was said to be Jamie Dornan.
A variety of sources confirmed the new addition to the movie team, and the book series author tweeted an announcement shortly after Dornan’s name was released.
James tweeted, “Stow your twitchy palms ladies … our man is here. Welcome to #TeamFifty @JamieDornan1.”
Dornan, the 31-year old actor, is not an extremely popular name to American shows, yet he has been in recognizable works. Previously he played the Sheriff/Huntsman on ABCs drama Once Upon A Time, but his face might be more recognized from his work as a Calvin Klein model. Dornan also starred on BBC’s The Fall.
While Dornan ended up on top and snagged the role as Christian Grey, there was competition for the part after Hunnam dropped out. Circulating through various sources and the web, it was speculated that Alexander Skargard, True Blood star, was the top choice. Other actors on the list included Theo James (upcoming star of Divergent), Scott Eastwood (Chicago Fire) and Christian Cooke (Where the Heart Is).
Meanwhile, Hunnam is set to continue his work on FX’s Sons of Anarchy, and is looking forward to some “family time.” Hunnam cited “schedule conflicts” as his reason for dropping out. Yet with a recent interview, the 33- year old actor reported that alongside of his work with Sons, he has also been going through “some family stuff.”
Hunnam also faced an ambush of attention in the public eye after the announcement of his casting as Christian Grey. And as with most movie-book adaptations the attention was both positive and negative. Dornan’s casting has also sparked strong reactions from fans of the series and one just hopes Fifty Shades can hold onto a leading male. Hunnam was only set to make $125,000 from the movie, which is low for an expected big hit. It is not released what the negotiations were for Dornan.
The film was set to start production early November, but the new casting has pushed the production starting date back to December 2. According to “The Hollywood Reporter” the film could miss their expected release date of August 2014, but nothing has been decided. What could stop this film next?
