This Means War
Have you seen this fresh new face around campus? Freshmen, Graham Galloway has set his goals and has already begun achieving some of them during his second month in college. Contributing uniqueness to Roanoke’s campus, Graham has created and is currently president of a distinct new club that he entitles “Fighting Games Club.” In this club-to-be, which is still awaiting approval, group members join together to play combat video games including Super Smash Brothers, Mortal Combat, Street Fighter, Dragon Ball Z, Call of Duty, and so many more in the confines of a simple dorm room. However, there’s more to this club than just finger cramps and yelling at the television screen. Graham envisions his club helping potential members become better gamers by watching professional video game enthusiasts on live-stream, teaching and educating one another during meetings, as well as competing against other colleges in tournaments that are held nationally. Graham explains the club as a “Beneficial stress reliever. Almost like sports, but without the physical contact,” as long as nobody gets in a fist fight over unfair scores or short temper. The best part of this newly created club is that anybody can join, whether you’re a licensed professional gamer, or just starting for the very first time. “Anybody can join the club, however, people joining must have an open mind and a drive for becoming a more talented video gamer,” Graham remarked happily while speaking about his latest and greatest idea. Like other clubs found around campus, Fighting Games Club will offer an opportunity for individuals with similar interests in video games to come together and enjoy each other’s company while doing what they love most. Who knows, going to the club meetings may lead you to your Princess Peach or Mario. Fighting Games Club certainly puts a unique spin on the multiple clubs found around Roanoke College. President Graham Galloway encourages and invites anybody to come out and try their hand at fighting games, so let the games begin!
