The National Society of Leadership and Success hosted a 5K for consent on Saturday, March 22. The 5K was also sponsored by Psi Chi and Heat, and was used to raise awareness and money for the NSLS service project.
The 5K course ran through the Roanoke College campus and participants were asked to run three laps with the third lap being slightly different. It was the nicest day of the week for their run and the event was a great success for all involved. HEAT provided bananas and tips/facts about how to stay active and healthy. Other protein snacks were provided at the Start line, with water bottles given out halfway through the run.
The course had chalk arrows directing participants where to go. Participants ran around campus starting at 10:30 am going from back quad, down into science quad, around the perimeter of Market Street and following back past Fintel. From there runners were given access to water and continued to run past Sections and across the stadium, continuing past New Hall and returned to back quad. The last lap involved a run up Heritage walk.
Volunteers met at 9am that morning to set up tables. The money raised went to the NSLS service project to donate a porch swing to the Hopetree Foundation.
NSLS Vice President Angela Montalvo said, “The event was very successful, and we definitely plan on doing this next year! Shout out to Heat and Psi Chi for the work they put in!”
