If you’re looking for fun on campus, Campus Recreation has many opportunities for you to get involved. Campus Rec has Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Group Fitness, and the Game Room. And this year Campus Rec has many new additions!
Due to the success of the FIFA tournament in the Game Room last Spring, the Game Room will be hosting more video game tournaments this year including Madden, NHL, and 2K14. These tournaments will have a season format over the course of 6 weeks, and at the end of the tournament a grand champion will be determined and awarded a prize. Also new to the Game Room is an Air Hockey table, UFC for the PS4 and the X-box, and as soon as they come out, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and the 2015 versions of all the sports games. As always, the Game Room offers board games and sports equipment for check out. Students must present their maroon card to the Game Room Attendant on duty and leave it with them until the equipment is returned. Check out is free.
Intramurals also have some new additions this year. There are three new sports that will have one-night tournaments this year including 3-on-3 basketball in the Fall, dodgeball in the Spring, and a special new game called Hantis in the Fall as well. To find out more about Hantis, you can visit the game’s website at www.Hantis.net. To see how much fun it is, students can watch the video on the site, or play on September 5th at FOTQ. Todd Bowyer, director of Campus Recreation, can be heard telling people that the thing that he is most excited about for the upcoming school year is this new game.
There are also three new club sports this year. Baseball, men’s soccer, and women’s lacrosse have been added and Campus Rec already sponsors: bass fishing, golf, men’s rugby, the riding team, and ultimate Frisbee.
Outdoor Adventures will be continuing their weekend trips this year, some of them day trips but also some that are overnight. They also offer Kayak roll clinics on Thursday nights. Be sure to check those out as well.
Group fitness has the same programs as last year including Boot Camp, Yoga, Insanity, and Zumba. However, hours for these have been extended to include more days throughout the week.
If you can’t remember all of this, you can pick up the Campus Rec brochures at the info desk or check out the website at www.roanoke.edu/campusrec.
Both Campus Rec and Club Sports will be represented at the Activities Fair, so be sure to stop by their tables!
