Family Weekend: Musical Extravaganza

Over 750 parents, family, and students attended the annual Campus Activities Board event, Musical Extravaganza. Musical groups sang and played their instruments, showcasing to the RC community their talents. Dr. Sandborg directs RC Choir and Oriana, the two official choirs on Roanoke College Campus. RC Choir sang selections from Sweeny Todd. The all-female Oriana group sang a medley from the famous Broadway Musical, Wicked. The Roanoke College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Blaha, played pieces that included audience interaction. The a capella groups debuted their renditions of songs without the instruments. Mainstreet sang beautifully with solos showcasing Juniors Brittany Mossor and Sabrina McIntyre along with the many talented others. They ended their selections with their classic version of “Amazing Grace”. Looking for an Echo performed splendidly as the premier all men’s a capella group on campus. They too ended with their traditional version of the alma mater, with butt flashing and all. Lastly, the co-ed a capella group, The RoaNotes, sang three songs that rocked the start of the a capella tunes. Every family weekend enjoys the sounds from the talented students and faculty at Roanoke.
