The Roanoke College field hockey team enters the fall season with a strong start after dominating both Ferrum College (4-0) and Washington College (4-2) over the past week.
The field hockey team experienced scorching weather at their home game against Washington College on Sunday, September 4th. However, a large crowd was present as the Maroons put pressure on their opponent and senior midfielder Emily McQueen whipped a shot into the goal after an assist from senior Shelbi Holloman, only five minutes into the game. Lashing back was Washington College’s Alli Dudley, who tied the game with a goal seven minutes later and popped another one past Roanoke’s goalkeeper four minutes after her first goal.
A change of game, Roanoke’s senior attacker Katerina DeSimone, scored the tying goal after a cross pass from Holloman. Heading into the second half, DeSimone proved herself dangerous as she placed another ball in the back of the cage after a cross pass from junior midfielder Rebecca Schmidt, helping Roanoke lead the game 3-2. Shelbi Holloman scored the fourth and final goal with 16 minutes remaining on the clock, closing the game with a 4-2 win for the Maroons.
Support the field hockey team this Saturday, September 10th as they host Wesley College at 11am at Kerr Stadium.
