On October 15, the Roanoke College men and women cross-country teams participated in the historical and scenic Gettysburg Invite in Pennsylvania. The women’s team finished the race with a third place spot while the men left Gettysburg with a seventh place finish.
Top finishers on the women’s side include senior Kerri Dalton, who grabbed second place over all of the female runners. Completing the 6K course with a time of 22 minutes and 44 seconds, Dalton was on the heels of Virginia Wesleyan’s Marissa Coombs who crossed the finish line only one second before Dalton. Senior Claire Brooks was the next woman to cross the finish line at a time of 23:22, finishing as the seventh female runner overall and landing a spot in the top 10.
Junior Jennifer Barthol (24:35), Senior Caity Ashley (24:44), Freshman Abigail Supplee (25:12), and Junior Nora DeBoer (25:33) all contributed to Roanoke’s third place victory at Gettysburg. As a team, the women tallied 92 points, only 42 points away from first place finisher Susquehanna University.
Leading the Roanoke College men in the 8K was Junior Howard Daniels who crossed the line at 26:55 and grabbed a top-25 place amongst the men finishers. Following Daniels was Senior John Wiggins who finished his 8K in 27:28. Seven seconds later, Junior Colin Brennan showed up at the finish line with a time of 27:35. Also contributing to the final 216 tallied points for the Roanoke men were Freshmen Tyler Barrett (27:41), Alec Carlson (27:44), Nathaniel Willis (28:12), and Junior Kevin Waterman (28:17). The Salisbury University men runners were awarded first place in the invitational while the Roanoke men finished in seventh.
After a quick fall break, the Roanoke College men and women cross country teams hit the ground running again this Saturday, October 29th at the ODAC Championships in Buena Vista, VA.
