The women’s soccer team is a force to be reckoned with.Â Friday, Sept. 17 the women made a glorious win against Randolph College with 8-0 on the final score board.
Mid-fielder Stephanie Parenteau ’13 gave the team five goals. She continued to heat up the game after her first goal. Her teammates, Rebekah Adams ’13,Â Katelyn LePore ’13, and McKenzie Garst ’11 also assisted the team with three more goals. The women’s defense was strong against Randolph, gaining thirty shots at the opponent’s goal in the final seconds of the match.
Â The women did not finish there; they continued the winning streak on Sunday, Sept. 19 against Christopher Newport University with a 4-1 win. They continued to prove to themselves and everyone around them that they have what it takes to make it a real game.
Sarah Bradley ’14, Kara Kapell ’14, Jamie Johnston ’12, and Parenteau each scored a goal which contributed to the team’s win. Goal keeper Lindsay Kooiman ’11, showed perseverance by protecting the goal outstandingly. Goal keeper Kristyn Brogan ’14 maintained a strong defense coming in the last 20 minutes of the game, keeping the score to 4-1. Â
CNU captains were out shot by 13-1. CNU, RC’s rival, and their players did not allow this as an intimidation and instead gave RC’s girls determination to make this game a victory. The ladies are a perfect example of a strong team that plays well together. Head coach Phil Benne and assistant coaches Esteban Martinez and Meredith Grunewald have given these women willpower and even opportunity to show spunk on the field. The smile on the women’s faces show a real passion for the game and their teammates.Â Drive and energy is what makes this team stand out from the rest of the league.
