Roanoke College’s women’s soccer overtook Randolph-Macon in the second half of their Senior Day game last Saturday.

They reached half time down by 1-0, but Rebecca Adams ’13 scored just minutes into the second half and again at the end. Stephanie Parenteau ’13 scored with an assist from Jessica Welfare ’11 and the girls ended with a 3-1 win. Parenteau scored her 10th goal for the season, a team best record. She has scored 19 goals in her career at RC.

The girls ended their regular season with a 12-3-3 overall record, and remain undefeated in the conference with a record of 9-0-2.

The girls have managed to tie the school’s record for the most shutouts in a single season numbering 11.

“Despite the wide array of personalities and skills, our willing team can consistently overcome challenges and disprove the non-believers,” Paige Gaeng ’11 said.

The Maroons have five, senior, midfielders- Jessica Welfare, Paige Gaeng, and McKenzie Garst, goalkeeper Lindsay Kooiman and defender Jessica Pease- graduating this year. All the girls, with the exception of Gaeng, have played all four years. Gaeng joined the Maroons her sophomore year after playing a year at Gettysburg College.

Kooiman accumulated 20 shutouts during her career at RC. She has 213 saves in her career and 69 were from this season.

Welfare ends this regular season with five goals, totaling 18 for her entire career.

Garst has scored nine goals in her career, three of which were this season. She has assisted 17 goals as a Maroon.

Gaeng attempted 18 shots in her career and Pease is finishing her season with 5 saves as a defender.

“I will miss the girls the most and all of our locker room shenanigans,” Gaeng said.

Roanoke will host the ODAC Quarterfinals this Saturday, Oct. 30 and the girls have high hopes for their playoffs.
