CAB Announces Spring Concert

Staff Writer

For its annual spring concert, Roanoke College is proud to present the famous band, The Wiggles. Known for their brightly colored long sleeved tees and catchy tunes, The Wiggles will bring their happy demeanor to our college audience.

The concert will be opened by 13 year old Internet sensation, Rebecca Black. When asked how they feel about the young singer presenting The Wiggles, many students had mixed feelings.

“To be in The Wiggles presence is such an honor,” Robert Hood ’11 said. “Black just doesn’t do them justice.”

Black will get the concert started with her heavily auto-tuned single, “Friday”. Although the song has brought on an overwhelmingly negative response from Internet users, one student feels the tune will fit perfectly with the theme of the event.

“[Black’s] song will accompany The Wiggles’ music perfectly because it’s educational!” Dorothy Oz, ’13 said. “She sings the days of the week perfectly and reminds us that Sunday comes after Saturday.”

Despite the “Friday” controversy, it’s the colorful kid’s band that really has the students excited. The Wiggles celebrated their 19th year together in 2010 and have created award-winning music, TV shows, videos, and films during that time. Their work has proven to be modern classics for children.

The Wiggles are made up of four Australian band members: Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt, and Sam Moran. Each member is distinguished by the color of their tee shirt. Field is known as the “Blue” Wiggle, Cook the “Red” Wiggle, Fatt the “Purple” Wiggle, and Moran the “Yellow” Wiggle.

The concert will not only include the friendly foursome, but their buddies as well. Such familiar characters include Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog, Henry the Octopus, and Captain Feathersword the friendly Pirate will all help the Wiggles to make the concert truly unforgetable.

“What makes The Wiggles such a successful band is their ability to relate to their young audience and to create catchy songs that are both entertaining and educational,” Charles Brown ’13 said.

The concert song list will hopefully include favorites such as “Big Red Car,” “Wake Up Jeff!,” “Live Hot Potatoes!,” and “Pop Go The Wiggles!” among others.

With the semester coming to a close, RC students are looking forward to the fun event.

“I am so ready to get my Wiggle on” Henry Potter ’14 said.
