Roanoke College’s girls soccer team finished off their 2011 regular season Tuesday with a non-conference win over Mary Washington.
It took 49 minutes for the women to find the back of the net, as Carmen Graves ’13 headed her team leading 8th goal of the season past Mary Washington’s goalie. Graves’s goal proved to be the only bit of offense the Maroons would need as they capped off a 1-0 win.
The goal by Graves was the icing on the cake for a good week for the junior midfielder. The Maroon’s two-sport athlete was named ODAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week on Monday after scoring three goals in two ODAC games. Graves is the first Maroons women soccer player to earn this honor since 2009. However, she is no stranger to ODAC honors, earning ODAC Runner of the Week for track and field last spring, as well as being named ODAC Co-Athlete of the Year for women’s outdoor track.
The game against Mary Washington was the 10th shutout of the season for the Maroons. The defense was led by freshman goalkeeper Carolyn Sarbacher, who had three blocked shots while manning the goal for all 90 minutes of the game. Sarbacher leds the team with 48 saves on the season.
The team goes into the ODAC tournament with a regular season record of 13-4-1. Their conference record of 8-3 put them as the three seed in the tournament.  They will take on the six seed Guilford College Saturday. The game is at home with the time still to be determined.
