The men’s soccer team has gotten off to a great start this season winning 6 out of their first 7 games, and both of their ODAC competitions. The men are 2-1 in their last 3 games, defeating both Randolph-Macon and Emory & Henry but falling to Christopher Newport.

On September 14th the men squared off against Randolph-Macon College. The Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets came out strong. Scoring 3 goals in the first 15 minutes, including the first goal of the game in a mere 50 seconds, the Yellow Jackets were in control. Our Maroons battled back in the first half and Brian White ’14 scored two goals, to get the score to 3-2 after the first half.

The second half was another shootout, with the Maroons tying the game a mere 3 minutes in. The Yellow Jackets and our Maroons battled it out in the second half with a tied score of 4-4 until the 88th minute when Tyler Carbaugh scored the game winner leaving the Maroons up 5-4 and securing Roanoke’s first ODAC victory for the season.

This past Saturday, the 21st, the men played Christopher Newport University at home. The Christopher Newport Captains went up 1-0 early on and held that lead all the way through to the second half. In the second half the Captains scored again putting them up 2-0 against our Maroons, a score which wouldn’t change until the game was over.

Finally, on Wednesday the 25th, the men’s team went on to Emory VA to take on the Wasps of Emory & Henry. Robby Lentine ’16 scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute to put the Maroons up 1-0. The next two goals were also for Roanoke as Brian White scored in the 38th and 44th minute propelling the Maroons to 3-0. No more goals were scored in the contest as the men went onto win their 2nd ODAC game of the season.

The men’s soccer team plays again, this Friday September 27th at 7:00pm in Kerr Stadium. The Maroons will be taking on Eastern Mennonite University in their 3rd ODAC game of the season. This game is also going to be Senior night for 8 of our men’s soccer players so be sure to show up and support our Maroons!
