Over the past week, the volleyball team has taken 3 dominant victories from their opponents, to extend their win streak to 4 games. This 4-game streak features 2 victories over Mary Baldwin College and single victories over both Southern Virginia University and Emory & Henry College.

The Maroons’ first game was on Friday, September 27 when they took 3 of 4 sets from the Knights of Southern Virginia University. The women took the first set with ease, winning by a score of 25-12, but the second set proved to be much more difficult as they had to battle to win it (30-28). The Knights refused to go down without a fight and won the third set 19-25 but could not hold onto the momentum as they proceeded to drop the fourth and final set to Roanoke (25-12).

Macey Tyree led the Maroons with 15 kills, followed by Mackenzie Allen and Samantha Klostermann with 7 kills and 6 kills respectively. Brittany Peterson contributed to the win by leading the team with 16 digs, followed by Macey Tyree with 13, Samantha Klostermann with 12, Alexandra Martin with 9, and Mackenzie Allen and Jessica Block who each added 6 digs of their own.

The Wasps of Emory & Henry were the next team to challenge Roanoke at home, but they fell to the Maroons in 3 sets by scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-17. During this dominant win, Samantha Klostermann picked up 16 kills, and Macey Tyree followed with 11. Mackenzie Tyree led the team with 20 digs, followed by Samantha Klostermann with 11, Macey Tyree with 10, Alexandra Martin with 7, and Carrie Heldreth with 3.

The Maroons then hosted the Flying Squirrels of Mary Baldwin College who were looking to take a game from Roanoke after their 3-1 loss at home. Roanoke denied Mary Baldwin that pleasure as they swept the Flying Squirrels 3-0. The Maroons did not face much resistance as they took the 3 sets 25-15, 25-16, and 25-13, pushing Mary Baldwin’s record to 0-16.

Samantha Klostermann and Allison White each led the Maroons with 7 kills as Carrie Heldreth added 6, Sarah Long added 4, and Macey Tyree added 4. Mackenzie Tyree led in digs with 17 followed by Macey Tyree with 6, Allison White with 4, and Samantha Toy with 3.

The Volleyball team looks to continue their win streak when they play Guilford College on Wednesday, October 9 at 6:30PM in an ODAC conference contest. Come join the volleyball team as they play their last home game of the regular season and attempt to raise their record to 15-6 and 5-1 in ODAC play.
