For the past eight years, Roanoke College has hosted the Women’s Forum, which consists of a series of lectures, film screenings, and presentations dedicated to the topic of women who are shaped by the liberal arts. The Women’s Forum takes places in the month of March, which is commonly known as the Women’s History Month. The year 2014 marks Roanoke College’s eighth consecutive year hosting such a forum, and this year author Jessica Valenti kick started the event on Wednesday, March 12th, with her discussion titled, “Feminism: Alive, Well, and Changing the Game”. Jessica Valenti successfully fired up Roanoke College, leaving a lasting impression of modern feminism. Upcoming events for the 8th Annual Women’s Forum include the sexual assault prevention show titled, “Sex Signals – The Real Life, Funny Sort-of-Improv Show about Dating and Other Stuff”, in which actors portray how seemingly harmless situations can evolve into cases of sexual assault. This show will be held in the Garrett Meeting Room in the Colket Center on Thursday, March 13th at 5:00 PM. Also, the Women’s Forum is proud to present the art exhibition by Gwen Hardie, titled “Skin Deep”, which is available for viewing pleasure until April 4th in Olin.
