The Roanoke College baseball team played Guilford College Tuesday night, winning 12-10. This is the Maroons’ third straight win, putting them 8-11 overall and 3-7 in ODAC.
Guilford scored four times in the first inning. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, the Maroons finally answered Guilford. Devin Cassity hit a double to center field, walking Will Black. Both Cassity and Black advanced on a wild. Cassity scored on an RBI from Will Decker and Lucas Nowlin hit a sacrifice fly ball allowing Black to score. The inning ended with a 4-4 score.
In the bottom of the third inning, Danny Creel hit a single and stole second. Cassity was walked and then Black hit a single, loading the bases. Decker hit a double with a two RBI, allowing Creel and Cassity to score. Next at bat, Nowlin hit a single with a two RBI and Decker and Black scored. The third inning ended with Roanoke leading 8-4.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Maroons extended their lead to 10-4.
Guilford came back in the top of the fifth, and after not scoring since the first inning; they loaded the bases with Humphrey, Ingels, and Petersen. Fulbright hit a single with an RBI. Smith next hit a grand slam and the fifth inning ended 10-9, with Roanoke ahead by one.
In the bottom of the sixth with one out and Clifton on first, Decker hit a double, and allowed Clifton to score. With Nowlin on base, Oakey hit a double and had a RBI and Nowlin ran to home, scoring once again. Roanoke extended their lead in the inning 12-9.
Guilford had the last score of the game as Wallace hit a home run, but the Maroons won the conference game 12-10.
