Men’s Baseball Defeats Greensboro College, 10-3
Wednesday night the Roanoke College baseball team bested the Greensboro College Prides with a final score of 10-3.
In the bottom half of the first inning the Maroons ran onto the board early with a 4-0 lead. In a single walk, the first three batters for RC reached bases. Freshman Will Decker, #24, came up next and hit a two RBI double, scoring freshman Will Black, and freshman Devin Cassity. A Single RBI was hit next by Senior Cam Cassady who allowed senior Jacob Clifton to score giving a third run for the first inning. Freshman Lucas Nowlin’s infield out gave Decker his own run to home.
The Greensboro Prides cut Roanoke’s lead in two by scoring two runs in the top half of the third inning. With the lead cut to 4-2, Roanoke players pushed forward with three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Junior Gavin Pellitteri hit a two RBI single which scored #34 Kevin Oakly and Cassady.
Senior Bradley Mattox was the next batter for Roanoke, and through a diversion, allowed Pellitteri to score a run. At the end of three innings, The Maroons led the game with a score of 7-2. In the fourth inning, Pellitteri hit another RBI single and scored Roanoke another run.
The final run for Greensboro College came in the top of the sixth inning. Roanoke brought in two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, winning the game for The Maroons against a non-conference opponent Greensboro College.
Roanoke College Maroons baseball team now has an overall record of 14-16, and play again on Saturday 19, against the Eastern Mennonite University Royals at 7 pm on Kiwanis Field.
