RC Club’s to Host Fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network Hospital
By Christy Blevins
On October 25, three Roanoke clubs will participate in a 24 hour gaming fundraiser to help raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Limited Edition, Video Games Club, and Harry Potter Club will host 24 hours of gaming with a personal goal of raising two thousand dollars for the cause.
This fundraiser is part of a National fundraising campaign called “Extra Life,” and the National Game day will begin at exactly 8 a.m. central time on Saturday, October 25, and end at 8 a.m. on Sunday, October 26. The clubs will host their game day in Pickle Lounge, in Colket, from 3 p.m. on October 25 to 3 p.m. on October 26. A launch party for the event will begin at 3 p.m. on that Saturday and a closing party will start at noon on that Sunday.
All Gamers and “Geeks” are invited to join a team, and the campaign itself has united gamers everywhere for the cause. This campaign is sponsored by Microsoft, Rooster Teeth, and many other gaming companies who have gathered together to stream games and help raise money.
Roanoke’s clubs have created their team on the extra Life website, entitled “Maroon Geekery,” and they have already raised $395 towards their two thousand dollar goal. Besides raising money for a great cause, the teams’ goals are to spread the word and get sponsors.
Limited Edition member, Jonathan Cribb, said, “[To accomplish this], we have to come together and go out of our comfort zone to ask people.”
Team Maroon Geekery challenges Roanoke College’s campus to “volunteer, donate, join the team, or just simply spread the word.” Cribb said, “We are doing something we love to spread the same joy we get to the children in all of the hospitals. We have a duty to share and help our fellow human beings.”
All Proceeds of the Extra Life campaign go to help kids in the Children’s Miracle Hospital Network. To join the Maroon Geekery or another team, visit extra-life.org.
