This year marks the fourth annual Campus Activities Board “R-Glow”. The rave-style event is aimed to bring a large-scale music experience produced by state-of-the-art production technologies to students once a year. Known as one of the biggest parties thrown by Roanoke College’s CAB for students and their guests, R-Glow will provide an evolutionary rave-like atmosphere that everyone should experience.
Historically, raves have been compared to the “Wood Stock of 1960’s,” where hundreds of thousands of people showed up and policemen were unable to contain the festivities. Popular raves that have taken off in the United States and internationally include “Tomorrow World,” a typical rave that promotes musical explorations among seven uniquely designed stages over 3 days. It is a festival of music for people aimed to explore and infuse the spirit of concert goers and thrill seekers. R-Glow hopes to invoke a sense of community and positivity through a collectively enjoyed musical experience only lived and replicated once a year.
The genre of music for typical raves includes Electronic, House, Trappe, Trance, Breakbeat, and Dub-Step, using synthesizers and computers to artfully create and mix music. In the past, R-Glow has boasted an attendance rate of over 500 students. This year, R-Glow will have new audience attractions that have never been seen before including: CO2 cannons and confetti cannons as well as LED light performers and a dancer suspended from the ceiling in a Lyra (hanging ribbons). In addition to the new features, there are plenty of giveaways that will enhance the ravers experience like glow sticks, light up foam sticks, refractor glasses and black light glow body paint. The Campus Activities Board has been working diligently all semester to provide Roanoke College with the best glow-in-dark rave party the campus has ever seen. CAB is very excited to watch the night unfold with student DJs Jackson Goyette and Josh Storo as well as campus DJ Todd Bowyer playing the various rave styled songs. R-Glow is expected to be the event of the year. It’s an event that wouldn’t want to be missed. Come on out and support!
