The Roanoke College track team continues to sweep the competition away. Their most victims came at the Vince Brown Invitational at Christopher Newport University on February 8th.

On the women’s side, junior Lexi Janney had a memorable day in the 60 meter dash, 200 meter sprint, and the 400 meter dash; placing fifteenth, tenth, and eighth, respectively. Sophomore Claire Brooks placed 5th in the 3,000 meter run for the Maroons, posting a time of 11:07.33, freshman Jennifer Barthol finished behind her with a time of 11:33.95 placing her in fourteenth. The Maroons also debuted their Women’s Distance Medley team of freshman Megan Boyles, sophomore Allyson Wallace, Jillian Lowe, and Claire Brooks which grabbed third with a relay time of 13:47.58. Other shining moments included junior Erin McGovern clutching fifteenth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.75 seconds, and freshmen Melanie Meadows crossing the line a bit behind her at 9.79 seconds; an impressive rank for both of the girls.

The men also wowed the spectators at CMU, especially junior Harrison Toney who crossed the line in ninth for the mile race with a time of 4:26.44; senior Cody Meadows followed behind him at 4:32.10. Freshman Elias Khoury secured twenty-second place in the men’s 60 meter dash with a time of 7.16 seconds; nearly missing his record breaking time of 7.14 seconds. Grabbing nineteenth in the 800 meter run was freshman Kevin Waterman who crossed the finish line at 2:03.52. It was an unforgettable day for sophomore Cody Statler who completed the meet with two personal bests in both the 5,000 and 3,000 meter run, crossing the line at 16:59 and 9:59 respectively. Finally, junior Jamal Wilson leaped a distance of 37’4.5” in the triple jump and freshman Lucas Jones snagged twenty-sixth place with a toss of 33’9.25” in the weight throw.

It was a long and late meet for the Maroons but the times and distances they recorded at CNU will set the stage for a strong performance in ODAC’s in March. The track team’s next meet will take place in Winston-Salem, NC at the UCS Invitational from February 14-15.
