Meditation is an ancient practice that everyone should try out! The goal of a session of meditation is to train attention and awareness and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. Meditation is an excellent way to lower stress, improve mental performance and can improve one’s well being. It allows one to take more control over their thought process and sense of self, and therefore grants the practitioner a more mindful and present existence. Progress and positive effects of meditation can generally be felt after only five minutes.

There are several excellent guided meditations on Youtube. The Apple App Store also boasts an impressive array of meditation apps and other wellness-oriented apps that incorporate meditation. An excellent free app that eases beginners into meditational practices is HeadSpace. HeadSpace works with its users to establish a routine that will help optimize the meditations effectiveness.

With only a few weeks left until the end of school, and therefore the encroaching doom of finals, the wellness benefits of meditation could very easily prove to be a massive boon for the stressed citizenry of Roanoke College.  Take more control over your life – take a breath in, then breathe out and clear your mind! Meditate!
